Episode 028 Tommy Hough a local radio host leans into politics and starts the San Diego Environmental Democratic Club
Show Notes
After moving to San Diego from Seattle in 2002, Tommy Hough spent 15 years on the air at stations like FM 94/9, KPRI, and 91X, and with his regular, daily appearances and specialty shows like Treehuggers International, Beer for Breakfast and Brunch With Bob and Friends, Tommy built a community of listeners and neighbors around shared experiences, current events, environmental matters, San Diego craft beers, favorite songs and movies, travel, traffic jams, family, and making ends meet. Since then, Tommy was able to utilize his connections with so many of his fellow San Diegans as part of his run for San Diego City Council in 2018, and often spoke firsthand about the challenges faced by his audience as they struggle to make ends meet in an increasingly expensive and unaffordable San Diego.
A long time environmentalist with professional stints at the San Diego Surfrider chapter and at Oregon Wild, Tommy co-founded San Diego County Democrats for Environmental Action in 2014, and served as the organization's first president through 2017 with the mission of promoting sound environmental policy, leadership, and responsibility within the San Diego County Democratic Party, and throughout Southern California.
Today we are going to talk about how a radio broadcaster was inspired to move on from his chosen profession to take a leadership role in local politics, and along the way launches an environmental and political club. I have so many questions for Tommy about how he started the Environmental Democrats and what they do for wildlife and our outdoor environs in San Diego County – I hope you'll join us.
